We no longer live in the colonial days. Yes, back then properties of certain foods (like those containing acids) were useful cleaning tools...Don't know why some people still insist on going backwards with these old wives remedies.
Some people like myself think there are enough toxic chemicals in our environment and we try to avoid contaminating the earth when possible.
I don't know if Tang would work. It probably has artificial coloring in it that could actually stain the bowl.

I occasionly put a block of wood (8" X 8") under the jack and run it up as high as it will go. Relax, you're not going to damage anything.

Assuming that you are using a weight distributing hitch, you need to get out the instructions and redo the setup from the beginning. Not only the hitch height has changed but your new truck has heavier suspension requiring the WD bars and/or hitch head to be readjusted.

Where were you staying at? Pisgah National Forest? It sounds like you are referring to the High Country area of Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk. The portion of 194 near Valle Crucis is known as "Dugger's S" named after the surveyor who laid it out. It is tight enough you could possibly be on three curves at once! It still isn't near as wild of a ride as 129 further West.

Never trust the dealer's set up of your hitch! Get out the instructions that came with your hitch and go through the entire process from the beginning. Even if the dealer did correctly set it up initially, it will now be incorrect since you have loaded it with all your gear. Until you do the complete set up according to the instruction, you will only be guessing.

heavy smoke smell...Do you have any tricks to reduce the odor?
Time cures many ills!
If you prefer chemicals over camp smoke, spray all upholstery with Febreeze.
I would leave it alone myself. When camping I usually smell like camp smoke, I doubt that I would notice the RV smelling.

RE: Water pump on only when faucet open??
Earlier this year my pump was cycling on/off/on very fast while water was running. It made a heck of a racket! After reading my owners manual I discovered that the Shurflo pumps have an adjustment screw on the end of the pump. I turned out the screw and everything smoothed out.

I want to remove sand and grit. I have a carbon filter at the sink for drinking water, although we are camped at a site with a well so its not doing much removing of chlorine.
Sounds like you've got a good setup. You're right, the smaller micron filters can cause problems. I installed a small micron filter just after my pump and although the water pressure was acceptable it popped the fuse for the pump. My pump was using 9.8 amps and is only supposed to pull 5.5 amps maximum. I had to rework it similar to what you did and just supply a drinking water spigot.

RE: Problem Filling Fresh Water Tank
Long version; I have two tanks that are linked together. The first tank would fill as normal but the water was slow going into the second tank through the link. I checked both vents and discovered that the vent for the second tank was plugged. Probably some bug thought it looked like home! :B I blew out the line and all is good now.
Short version; you probably have a plugged vent line. If air cannot get out, water cannot get in.

If the jack works from the tow vehicle then the jack ground is fine.
First thing you do in a situation like this is retrace your steps. Don't remove the jack or add anything new into the mix. Carefully go back over everything you touched previously, that is where you will find the problem.
The fuse holder probably deformed for one of two reasons, either water got into it causing corrosion and a poor connection or the connection simply wasn't tight enough. Either way it caused some arcing which overheated the holder.

What are you wanting to accomplish? The sediment filters don't do much except remove sand and grit. Filters are classed by the microns they will pass through. If you want to improve the quality of the water for drinking you will need a better filter with carbon. The carbon removes chlorine and also improves taste.

I imagine using a spacer will seriously reduce the weight rating of the ball even if you have enough threads. It will place more torque on the shank instead of at the base of the ball.
I am confused about what you are doing and wish that I could see it in person. Maybe you are using spring bars that are too light?

RE: My Thoughts on Storing WDH Head at Campsite
I am thinking about making a custom plywood box with a carrying strap/rope handles to keep in my truck to store the hitch.
You might already have a box. I looked around and discovered that an old plastic cooler sitting in the house was the perfect size for storing my hitch head. Now it stays in the cooler when not in use, has a lid and handles, works perfect. The cooler also holds a pair of gloves, spare pins, a can of spray lube, and a can of electrical cleaner all conveniently in one space.

One of the best additions I have made. I easily could have made my own but for the time involved and the quality of the Genturi, I bought it on sale. If I run my gen-set for an hour or more to charge may batteries the Co detector is blaring. It has never sounded with the Genturi. If you run a built in gen-set, get one for you and your neighbor's safety.

RE: Rain Proof A Tent
My experience with many years of tenting is that a good quality nylon tent won't leak from the start. You get what you pay for. If you do want to seal seams do NOT use the latex seam sealer. Use the good stuff, Sean Grip is it's name. When the tent does eventually begin to leak because the DWR (durable water repellent) has worn out it is time to replace it.
Canvas tents can be treated with Thompson's Water Seal. It comes in a can as a liquid, set up the tent and brush it on. Allow to dry thoroughly and you're good to go. Very few camping tents are made from canvas anymore (if any).
